The recent years have witnessed the increasing use of Facial Recognition Technology (FRT) in the public sectors – from immigration to criminal law enforcement and much more.
The technology has been touted as a major innovation in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). However, the use of this technology comes with increasing concern about its ability to perpetuate bias and discrimination against Blacks and people of colour.
This presentation seeks to further the concept of algorithmic racism by examining how AI facial recognition technology adversely impacts Blacks and people of colour.
