The Alberta Civil Liberties Research Centre

Summary

Identity theft is the crime of the 21st century, impacting Canadians daily. While there are laws in place that attempt to protect the privacy and personal information of Canadians, theft and fraud are still commonplace. It is up to you to ensure your personal information that is vital to your livelihood is protected. Nobody can guarantee themselves risk-free from identity theft. However, by taking simple yet necessary steps to protect your identity, you can minimize the risk of identity theft and serious damage to your financial well being. Jessica Gunson of Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre advises individuals to be vigilant especially as the fraudsters are becoming more sophisticated in their methods. [CPA ID Theft]

If however, you fall victim to identity theft, you can mitigate the effect to some extent by reporting the incident and taking all other steps recommended by the relevant agencies.
